EDF ENERGY
EDF Energy is a subsidiary of the French state-owned Électricité de France Group, one of Europe’s biggest energy company. It was founded in January of 2002 and is presently headed by its CEO Simone Rossi. The firm claims to be the UK’s largest producer of low-carbon electricity and the leading on new nuclear development projects. The company believes that its dedication to inculcate smart innovations and advocating for renewable energy will initiate the transformation in the future of the industry.
Products
EDF Energy supplies one-fifth of UK’s electricity and gas derived from various renewable and non-renewable sources generated from its own power plants, the wholesale energy market, and other independent generators as well. To start with its renewable energy, it is currently contributing almost 12% to the fuel mix. To date, the company is operating a total of 36 wind farms producing an accumulated generation capacity of 704.2 megawatts.
As for the non-renewables, nuclear power shares the majority of the energy generated with as much as 71% of the fuel mix. In the UK, the firm presently owns and operates 8 nuclear power plants delivering a total capacity of 8.9 gigawatts. Seven out of the eight are Advanced Gas-Cooled Reactor (AGR) power stations. Meanwhile, the eighth plant, named as the Sizewell B, is a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) type of power station. Sizewell B had already made a breakthrough in generating more than 200 billion kilowatt-hours of low-carbon electricity ever since it started operating in the year 1995.
EDF Energy also owns and operate coal-fired power stations in Nottinghamshire. The Cottam and West Burton A coal plants have the capacity to generate electricity to up to 4.5 terawatt-hours. In total, it is contributing almost 8% of the firm’s fuel mix. On the other hand, the company’s one and only Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant, the West Burton B, is capable of producing up to 6.6 terawatt-hours of electricity. This constitutes a little more than 9% in the overall fuel mix.
Apart from generating and supplying energy, EDF Energy also offers various range of insurance policies. This targets to protect the consumer’s from any untoward incidences in line with the heating and boiler systems and other types of home emergencies.

Coverage
EDF Energy generates and supplies electricity and gas to more than 5 million households and business establishments across all the regions of the United Kingdom. Thus, making it the largest energy supplier in terms of volume. Nevertheless, the company is not a distribution network operator. Hence, it is by no means responsible for the management of the towers and cables distributing its energy supply.
